February 2 at 5:10pm Hi Paul!
So just in case.......
The Preston info, I found what I was looking for. Back in the Spring of 1931 there was a serial killer or killers on the lose in the San Diego area. http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=YJULAAAAIBAJ&sjid=lVUDAAAAIBAJ&pg=2222,5238960&dq=louise-teuber&hl=en
I do not however believe they were all killed by the same person. The little 10 yr old was dismembered.
Lowell M. Bell, a 16 yr old ex sailor (discharged for theft) confessed to the murder of 17 yr old Louise Tueber, a store clerk whose nude body was found hanging from a tree. The knot in the noose was a dbl half hitch:
http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=bfIoAAAAIBAJ&sjid=1NMEAAAAIBAJ&pg=3271,4709889&hl=en
He was in jail waiting on another burglary charge when he confessed to a fellow jail mate taht he killed a girl. I believe he was disturbed however it appears he may have been an attention seeker but I thought it interesting that he was sentenced to Preston.
http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=pO4UAAAAIBAJ&sjid=A-MDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6218,289404&dq=louise-teuber&hl=en
I have the pdf for the full article in which he was sentenced to Preston for burglary.
As for the murdered housekeeper, I believe 100% they had the right person is custody but they did not want to admit that one of their charges was a murderer. There had already been allegations of mishandling of funds, the boys at one time were malnourished, and at one point the boys were being sold alcohol to keep them happy.
In fact, here is a Biennial report Biennial from the early 1900's, on page 34 you will find a doctors report, Some were diagnosed as anorexic.

It is about as exciting as most financial reports, lol. But it does give you an idea of life there back in the day, and beginning on page 58 there are a few photos of the place and people, you have to scroll through, There are more of the board members as well from 1906 beginning on page 134. there are also pictures dispersed throughout of the kids there, and some do not look that healthy.
Here is another report from 1896.

Anyway, back to murdered housekeeper Anna Corbin. Her murderer was more than likely 19 yr old Eugene Monroe. http://www.ledger-dispatch.com/life/lifeview.asp?c=228221
He was tried 3 separate times and after his 3rd acquittal was paroled from Preston and released. What they did not know is this from the article:
QUOTE: in 1949, before arriving at Preston, Monroe was the suspect in the murder of a 17-year-old girl in Southern California, the details of the crime matching those of Corbin's almost exactly.
The day after his acquittal, the California Youth Authority decided to parole Monroe from Preston School of Industry. He was a free man.
One year later Monroe was arrested for, and openly confessed to, the rape and murder of a pregnant woman in Tulsa. He was sentenced to life in prison, plus an extra 40 years for the separate armed robbery of another woman.END
There was also a 19 yr old boy who when attempting to run away was shot in the back and killed by a guard. It was called "an accident".
There was also a young murderer there by the name of Paul Daedler back in 1924. He shot Arthur Martinez to death. His is a Case law study as well. His victim Arthur was only 9 yrs old.

Lots of anger and sadness there.

Laurie on Good Servant Orphanage: Vallejo
Hi Paul! I LOVE the Laurie from London. It is FABULOUS! In reality my background reads like an international cocktail. lol
I have a few more things to look up for that address.
Looking at your notes, I knew about the Zodiac, but not the Orphanage, fascinating.
Out of curiosity Is the Good Templars Home for orphans one and the same? DEED
If so here are a few photos you may find cool: PHOTO KIDS ON LAWN

This book link gives a great description and history.
BTW, they planted Mulberry trees and grew silk worms.
It closed in 1919, was a golf course for a while, and developed into land tracts/housing by the 1930's.
The town did suffer losses in the beginning. Even arson, called "demon fires":

Here is an excellent link that gives a time-line of it's early origins: GENWEBARCHIVE
I noticed you mentioned stones that show up mysteriously. That is fascinating. You made me think of something else, and of spirit stones. I'll get back to you later.
Have a great evening!

Laurie on 37 Balboa Avenue, Vallejo, CA
Hi Paul,
I think I have found all I can on that physical address. One thing I ran into was this:
"California Government code section 6254.21 prohibits the displaying of names and addresses on a Government website."
However I was able to work my magic and pull a few names associated with that home prior to your client living there. So far the only thing I found from the past were alcohol related felony charges. So an alcoholic lived there in the past, not much help I'm afraid. And just so you know, anything I may stumble one that is kind of private and not really necessary, I keep out.
I also was able to see a log of the recent criminal activity in that area, which led me in another direction and WOW! I found 92 sex offenders within that zip.
There is a lot of info out there as well on the American Indian tribes who once lived in that area. I looked into the Suisun tribe, lots of tragedy. The stones you mentioned caused me to look into that. One thing you may want to do is pay attention to the shapes. Every tribe I have ever come across in research has their stone spirits. I am also a faithful listener to a few medicine men, so it stood out to me.
I am going to work a little tonight on your next case. Depending on what happens to my brother, I may be short on time.
Good luck tomorrow!
PS. And let me know if you ever want more on that Orphanage, I was intrigued and think I found a way to find more.
Peace and Blessings,
Laurie
