Comments: Behind the cover, there is an introduction to this story, it reads: "In a small college town in Northern California, Laney Alexander leads a regular, uneventful life, that is, until the charming and alluring Oliver Knight enters her world. Who is this gorgeous and mysterious stranger? Or, rather, what is he? As Laney's sophomore year of college begins, so does an unbelievable adventure - including a love she didn't know she longed for. She soon learns that Oliver is not ordinary, nor is the rest of his family, including a sister who openly hates her and a brother who will stop at nothing for revenge. As she fights for her life, and Olivers' love, Laney discovers that the fictional world of vampires isn't so fictional after all. Nobody is safe, especially Laney, Oliver's most important priority, and he will stop at nothing to protect her. With her mortality at risk, and a commitment revealed that she, without a doubt, knows she wants, Laney's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn....."

Joann is very descriptive with her characters. She is so descriptive, that you instantly bond and become attached to the characters. It reminds me of the movie Goodfellas, in which you are taken right in the beginning of the movie and introduced to every character, learning about their detailed and sordid history. Joann does that with her own characters, you will learn about their intimate lives, their love interest and everything else that makes them human or vampire. You will find it fascinating how Laney learns about the Brookehaven Vampires. You will be held spellbound on how a vampire named Oscar grabs Laney. Laney is in fear of her life. Oliver, her love interest tries to save her, as he is held down by vampire minions. Secrets are revealed, Laney notices she is surrounded by bloodthirsty vampires with fangs bearing...

Laney learns that Oliver is hiding secrets from her, it has something to do with his sister.....

Oliver in a moment of strength throws off the minions who hold him down. With Olivers' identity revealed, he is thrust into a moment of desperation.....he has Laney to save! You the reader will learn what blood lust is all about...the desire to have flesh-from-the-vein blood! There are many shocking moments to this story, some seductive moments, some intriging moments, some horrifying moments.

You will be glued to your seat with Laney - the Brookehaven Vampires, this is a book that unfolds in your hands like a Summer blockbuster movie! Standing ovation to Joann J. Martin Sowles!
