IDW Publishing does it again. A superb crossover event with two pulp superheroes! The Spirit meets The Rocketeer! Both characters have been recognized by Hollywood and appeared in their own blockbuster movies! Now The Rocketeer created by writer-illustrator Dave Stevens will face up to The Spirit created by legendary cartoonist Will Eisner! The Rocketeer pays homage to the Saturday matinee serial heroes of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. The Rocketeer is Cliff Secord, a stunt pilot who discovers a mysterious jetpack that allows him to fly. His adventures are set in Los Angeles and New York circa 1938. The Rocketeer has met great icons such as Doc Savage and his crew. The Rocketeer has also met the Shadow’s alter ego Lamont Cranston. And now The Rocketeer meets another great icon, that icon is no other than The Spirit!

You can watch the Rocketeer movie trailer by Walt Disney Studios here:

You can watch The Spirit movie trailer here:

If you have been stuck in a closet for all of your life and you don’t know who The Spirit is, he is a fictional masked crimefighter. He first appeared June 2, 1940 in ‘The Spirit Section’, to a 16-page Sunday supplement, distributed to 20 newspapers by the Register and Tribune Syndicate and reaching five million readers during the 1940s. Later from the 60s to the 80s, you could find The Spirit stories in Harvey Comics, Warren Publishing and Kitchen Sink Press. Kitchen Sink and DC Comics used other writers and artists to bring us new stories. The Spirit is actually Denny Colt, a masked vigilante who fights crime with the blessing of the city’s police commissioner Dolan. Dolan is similar to Commissioner Gordon who has been known to turn a blind eye for Batman (another superhero vigilante). Speaking of which, The Spirit has met the Dark Knight known as the Batman.

Mark Waid – legendary writer, along with the superb talents of Paul Smith – bring to life the crossover event of the decade! The Spirits meets the Rocketeer! Read Mark Waid’s interview about this special event at Comic Book Resources:
