Comments: Each story in this series is named after a movie which is a great touch. Each of these stories does take place in the new universe created for the new TV series Riverdale.
"Bloodsport" Archie is on the football team and it is not all roses. Initiation to the football team is pure hell here. We do see Chuck in a different light than from other Archie series. Archie shows his will power and toughness. This version of Riverdale is a dark and unfriendly place.
"Bring It On" Cheryl Blossom is Captain of the Cheerleaders. She has a version of Hell Week for Betty. Now we are treated to Betty in an almost not there cheerleader uniform. The illustration features a hot looking Betty.
There is a definite rivalry between Cheryl and Betty. One that will only intensify.
This is a dark and disturbing look at the Archie Universe and the characters in it from a mirror darkly.

Comments: There was a huge food fight and the principal has the main suspects all in detention.
Archie has decided to face his greatest fear. It is a good lesson to see someone moving forward pushing themselves to their limits.
The accused students talk among themselves. They want to get to the bottom of this.
Just wait to you see what Betty is reading it will blow your mind. You will not in a million years question it.
This issue we see true friendship shine. The close knit group of friends really do shine here as friends.
Cheryl is shown as a quite bomb just waiting to go off. She is going to be trouble.
This book is done as a drama series, so it is nothing at all like the older Archie comics. It lacks the over the top humor but replaces it with teen drama.

Comments: "Wild Things" Veronica has joined the Puss ycats and its party time. They are wild as all get matching tattoos. Than its rumble time with the rivals.
Josie and Veronica aka V do some bonding. It is strange seeing these to getting so close if you are used to the classic stories. It is a different way to bring their lives out. It might work but still has to be fleshed out more.
The art is vague it needs to bring out more detail especially in the faces.
"The Case of the Sorrel Man" Betty and Jughead play ameteur detectives. This noir tale does involve investigating Cheryl's dad leads to something very revealing. Here Betty's inner beauty shines out as she helps another human being to feel good about themselves when she could have done something far different.
These stories are based on the TV series and the characters do stay true to them.

Comments: We learn here Riverdale does have a lot of closet gays. Kevin though is not in the closet he stands tall and proud of who he is.
The art on an Archie Comic is rarely this bad. Its flat and lifeless.
Veronica and Betty take Kevin to a gay bar. Things do not work out to good. Poor Kevin. Will he ever find love? Who knows it could be just around the corner.
Kevin does not make that much of a contribution to Riverdale.
The gay angle is being played up way to much. Yes Kevin is gay but do we need to have it continuously said over and over. He is shown as a good guy who only wants to find love.

Title: Riverdale # 5

Comments: Reggie is confident in himself. He knows who he is and is comfortable with it and he knows what he wants out of life.
Now Reggie sets his sights on one Josie McCoy. She makes it very clear she is not interested. So Reggie being Reggie gives up, no way his words and his attitude says it all he is just going to keep trying.
Reggie sets up a gig for Josie and the Puss ycats. At the gig we see Reggie shine. He is human and he stands up for the right things. We see Josie finding that she does connect with him and maybe even cares about him.
Reggie has a heart and you will find yourself cheering for him as he and Josie become friends. Yes cheering for Reggie.
This issue is so well written and emotionally charged.

Comments: Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe has a long rich history. It has been a part of Riverdale right from the start. Plus you will not believe the celebrities who have graced its doors.
There was even a mystery at Pop's the Legend of Sweetie. This mystery has mysteries within it.
One customers long ago even suggested Pop should sell hamburgers. This guy had something about him that is not normal. Pop does give the devil his due and this customer returns for a couple burgers once a year.
Pop's is a landmark in Riverdale. It has been there as long as Riverdale exists and will continue to be. So if you want the best burger around you know where to go.
The mysteries though might give you a fright and make you look over your shoulder when someone enters Pop's.

Title: Riverdale # 7
Publisher: Archie Comics
Writers: Aaron Allen and Will Ewing
Artist: Thomas Pitilli
Colors: Andre Szymanowicz
Letters: Janice Chiang
Photo Cover: Jughead - Cole Sprouse
Cover: Francesco Francavilla
Price: $ 3.99 US
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Comments: Dilton is the focus here and his out look on life is not very uplifting. Dilton has become a dooms day believing person. Yes he believes life as we know it is going to end. We see he is prepared though. Dilton though is acting as if he is not fully sane.
The art is boring. It has no flare and nothing about it stands out.
Jughead gets himself into a situation. He is Jughead though so he comes prepared.
People in this comic are acting just as they might in the real world. The Archie characters are full of drama and no fun.
If your looking for a tense person moment with Jughead and Dilton you do get that.
