Title: Aposperos: Merchant Of Souls # 1 Publisher: Visionary Comics Writer: Nektatios Chrissos Artist: George Martzoukos Price: $ 1.49 US Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Website: www.visionarycomics.com Comments: The art seems a weird combination with close ups on objects and people being clear and outstanding in glorous relief to fuzzy and indistinct. There is a realism to the people that jumps out at you. The story is about a woman Mario Kalidou and her story. Her love for her husband. As she talks to the Soul-Merchant it is like they are almost having a normal conversation about something mundane. It is weird. The Soul-Merchant is so polite and all business to. The art with the people looks almost photographic. The realizim sinks in the farther you go along. It is astonishingly beautiful. The lettering though is hard to read. You have to strain to clearly see it. Niko one of the Soul-Merchants has a heart. He feels for those he has to deal with. And whenm he encounters Maria's soul and sees how pure it is he is saddened for her. She does not deserve to lose her soul. She only wanted her husband saved. So this story is all about her love. There are mysteries left unanswered here. This issue peaks your interest and will draw you back for more.
Title: Graylight Publisher: NBM/Comics Lit Writer: Naomi Nowak Artist: Naomi Nowak Price: $ 12.95 US Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Website: www.nbmpublishing.com Comments: The colors are a lovely water wash look. They are subdued. But still standout beautifully. The wish for a sunny day can be a thing to inspire magic. The young woman whose name is not mentioned is the feature character here. She is an enigma. About halfway through the book we finally find out her name Sasha. The story seems to switch from different settings but some how it still flows smoothly. The illustrations of plant life add such beauty to this book. Flowers. trees and bushes are all so lovely. The illustrations almost seem alive. The simple act of stealing can lead to much unhappiness. So can the insistant ringing of bells. So never fool with a witch. At times the story can be hard to follow. The scenic illustrations of Sweden are so wonderfully shown. The art seems to portray our star Sasha as sweet and innocent. When in reality she is a thief and a very sexual girl as well. There are a few topless drawings of her that are tastefully done. The magical aspect is downplayed more as a back ground than anything else until the end. The end is mysterious and full of magic.
